(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The driver involved in an accident that killed a Glenbrook teen was allegedly driving 122 mph when the collision happened, according to details released from a Saturday court hearing.

Taeyoung Kim, 21, from Northbrook, was arrested for causing a crash on Mother's Day that killed 17-year-old Marko Niketic.

Kim has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing death, reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, and speeding among other charges.

Authorities said Kim was speeding when he crashed into the teen's car on Sunday night in the 1200 block of East Lake Avenue near Meadow Lane in Glenview. Kim was allegedly going 131 mph seconds before the collision and 122 mph when the crash occurred, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

The posted speed limit where the crash occurred is 35 mph. When officers assessed Kim’s vehicle the speedometer was stuck at the max speed, 120 mph.

Niketic died at the scene. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reports that the passenger in Niketic’s car, his girlfriend, suffered several serious injuries and was discharged from the hospital earlier this week.

Kim suffered from a broken femur, according to court details. The passenger in his car suffered a severed artery and a back fracture.

The 17-year-old was just weeks away from graduation. Niketic’s funeral took place on Thursday, just two days before what would have been his senior prom.
