Restoration continues at John Boy's restaurant following February Fire
ALPENA, Mich. (WBKB) - It's been nearly six months since anyone has been able to taste the food at John Boy's restaurant in Alpena. Every day, crews are working closer to flipping the sign back to open. Recently, we stopped by the Chisholm Street location Dave Murphy Builders LLC have employees hard at work, bringing the Alpena institution back to life. Wiring was in place and new drywall was going up. We spoke with Dave Murphy who is not only focused on doing a quality job with the restoration, he has fond memories at the restaurant that he hopes can continue on for future generations. "Back in the day, Black Friday would be irregular hours of the night. After shopping, we would all come here and get some breakfast before we headed on home. That was probably one of my favorites," said Dave Murphy. An adjoining wall suffered water damage and there were some issues to be addressed with the roof. In a Facebook post, John Boy's commented, "The damage was really minimal all things considered." Nearby businesses took more of a direct hit. The neighboring building was demolished and remaining debris has been hauled away. An exact reopening date
