Schedule, site for final games of AHSAA softball tournament changed
With a threat of severe weather on Friday in the Oxford-Jacksonville area, the AHSAA has announced changes to all of its softball tournament games. “While we understand the obstacles this may cause, getting the games in and the safety of our student-athletes and fans must be at the forefront of all decisions,” AHSAA associate executive director Kim Vickers said.

Westbrook Christian boys golf wins second straight Class 3A state title, four place in top 10
Westbrook Christian boys golf took home its second straight Class 3A state title on Tuesday, behind all four golfers placing inside the top 10. The tournament was shortened to 27 holes from the original 36 due to expected weather on Tuesday. Westbrook Christian took the title by 10 strokes over Northside Methodist with a team score of 308.
Pisgah softball extracts revenge, advances in AHSAA state tournament with win vs. Pleasant Valley
OXFORD — Pisgah softball extracted revenge on Pleasant Valley and extended its season in one game. The Eagles earned a 9-1 win over the Raiders on Thursday at Choccolocco Park. Pisgah will now face the winner of Zion Chapel and Hatton at 9 a.m. Friday on Field 1. The Raiders beat the Eagles in the East Regional final last week to earn the no. 1 qualifier spot.
Westbrook Christian's baseball and golf big weeks lead Gadsden area top performers

Championship 7: Ranking Thursday’s standouts from AHSAA tournaments
Another hectic and exhilarating day at Oxford and Jacksonville produced multiple performances worthy of highlighting – but we’re only supposed to pick a Championship 7. Jasper won its first state softball championship and Ariton took its second state baseball title. Corner captured its first baseball championship late, too, and we did select one of the Yellow Jackets based on the second game of the series that set up the chance for the crown. And, we had to include heroics from two games that were still under the lights Wednesday in the 1A softball and the 7A baseball championships – because they were outstanding.
Saint James softball survives pitchers duel to take down Piedmont to open state tournament
OXFORD — In a hotly-contested pitchers duel, Saint James emerged with a 2-1 win over Piedmont in the first round of the AHSAA Class 3A state tournament. Saint James advanced in the winner's bracket and will play at 2:30 p.m. on Field 4 vs. Winfield, while Piedmont moves down to the loser's bracket and will play on Field 2 at 2:30 vs. Excel. All games at the AHSAA state tournament take place Choccolocco Park in Oxford....
Corner Baseball, Jasper Softball win state titles
The parade of champions continues in Oxford and Jacksonville. The Corner Yellow Jackets claimed their first ever state title Thursday night, beating ACA 13-0 to claim the 4A crown.. UAB signee Brendan Conner pitched a complete-game, two-hitter. He also was 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs and two triples.

Jacksonville State beefed up its ground game on Friday, getting a transfer commitment from former Georgia running back Andrew Paul. Paul (5-foot-11, 218 pounds) totaled 129 yards and a touchdown in seven games for the Bulldogs in 2023. He redshirted as a true freshman, leaving him with three years of eligibility remaining.
