    Westbrook Christian's baseball and golf big weeks lead Gadsden area top performers

    Here are the final Gadsden Times area high school top performers for the final week of the 2023-24 high school athletics season for the week ending on May 17.

    Baseball

    Westbrook Christian's Brady Carden had two RBIs in the first game of the Class 3A state title series in a win over Thomasville.

    Westbrook Christian's Will Chadwick had four RBIs.

    Westbrook Christian Dylan Rainey pitched 5 ⅔ innings striking out five batters allowing three earned runs on five hits.

    Westbrook Christian's Brodie Johnson brought in three RBIs in game three of the series in a 8-7 loss to Thomasville.

    Westbrook Christian's Dylan Rainey brought in two RBIs.

    Westbrook Christian's Bo Kilgo struck out five batters in five innings of work.

    Boys golf

    Susan Moore's Jayce Hutchins shot a 14-over-124 to finish in 11th place.

    Westbrook Christian's Eli Edge finished in second place in the AHSAA Class 3A state golf tournament. He shot a four-over-par-114 to help lead the Warriors to a repeat state team title.

    Westbrook Christian's JD Berndt shot an eight-over-118 to finish in a tie for fourth place.

    Westbrook Christian's Nolan Terrell shot a nine-over-119 to finish in a tie for sixth.

    Westbrook Christian's Cove McHugh shot an 12-over-122 to finish in 10th place.

    Girls golf

    Hokes Bluff's Makayla Bearden shot a 18-over-126 in the AHSAA Class 1A-3A state tournament to finish in eighth place.

    Softball

    Cherokee County's Emma Hill threw a complete game striking out six batters in a 6-0 loss to Brooks.

    Cherokee County's Emma Hill struck out 10 batters allowing nine hits in a 5-4 win over Prattville Christian.

    Thursday, May 16

    Piedmont's Savannah Smith pitched six innings, striking out four batters in a 2-1 loss to St. James.

    Piedmont's Cayla Brothers scored twice and brought in an RBI in a 5-4 win over Excel.

    Piedmont's Cadence Buttram, Savannah Smith, Cacey Brothers and Carson Young all had RBIs during a seventh inning rally vs. Excel.

    Piedmont's Savannah Smith threw 4 ⅓ innings striking out five batters.

    Piedmont's Savannah Smith threw seven innings allowing 13 hits, but struck out four batters in a 7-2 loss to Plainview.

    Plainview's Hannah Regula brought in three RBIs in a 4-3 win over Alabama Christian Academy, off of a three-run home run.

    Plainview's Faith Odom struck out six batters in more than five innings of work.

    Plainview's Shianne Parker pitched eight innings, allowing six hits and striking out four batters in a 1-0 loss to Opp.

    Plainview's Abby Williams brought in two RBIs on three hits in a 7-2 win over Piedmont.

    Friday, May 17

    Plainview's Abby Williams brought in two RBIs in a 9-5 win over Madison Academy.

    Plainview's Graidin Haas brought in four RBIs and scored twice.

    Plainview's Faith Odom hit a home run and pitch the final 4 ⅔ innings of the win, striking out two batters.

    Plainview's Jada Hampton brought in three RBIs on three hits and scored once in a 6-2 win over St. James.
