SAND ROCK – Sand Rock swept area rival Collinsville on senior night in volleyball action on Tuesday. The scores were 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20. The Gadsden State cross country teams competed in the JSU Southern Showcase on Sept. 15 in Huntsville. Pacing the men’s team in the 8,000-meters was Lane Griffin (pictured above), who finished 237 out of 303 runners with a time of 28:56.60. Jacksonville State is coming off an open date, and has one more “regular” week before the schedule takes an unprecedented turn. The Gamecocks (2-1) host Eastern Michigan (2-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Burgess-Snow Stadium in their third of four non-conference games. After that, JSU plays five straight mid-week games (two on Tuesday, two on Wednesday and one on Thursday) as part of Conference USA’s new broadcast deal with ESPN.

Rieger feels Lady Warriors on the cusp, but not quite there yet in tri-match loss to Southside, Sand Rock
CENTRE – Despite being predominantly sophomore and freshmen based, the Cherokee County Lady Warriors are proving to be quite competitive this volleyball season. Head coach Tiffany Rieger is looking for that breakthrough match where they defeat a team they might not should on paper. They had two golden opportunities to do just that on Monday at home against Class 5A Southside of Gadsden and Sand Rock, but the growing pains are still there.
