McMichael Mills, a yarn manufacturer, has notified the state Department of Commerce that the company will close its Burlington facility this spring, resulting in 81 layoffs. McMichael Mills has filed a “Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification” (WARN notice) with the state commerce department, announcing its intention to close its facility at 2050B Willow Springs Lane, which is near Apollo Chemical, in Burlington, effective April 27.

A high-tech manufacturer has agreed to expand a production facility in Burlington thanks, in part, to newly-approved $100,000 grant from the N.C. Department of Commerce. Police seek suspects in early Thursday morning holdup
Police in Burlington are looking for three men who reportedly robbed two individuals at gunpoint in the small hours of the morning on Thursday. The victims in this case had reportedly ensconced themselves in a parking lot near the juncture of Maple Avenue and Tucker Street when they were approached by a trio of black males shortly before 2:16 a.m. According to Burlington’s police department, two of the three suspects threatened the victims with handguns before making off with some personal items, electronics, and a small quantity of cash. The victims proceeded to flag down some police officers after the robbery.

Commissioners hear about variety of topics critical to Caswell Co.
The Caswell County Board of Commissioners regular meeting was held February 5th at the Gunn Memorial Public Library in Yanceyville. Public Hearing on Billboard Ordinance and Hyco Zoning Amendment: Donnie Powell along with Jason Watlington, new Director of the County Planning Department, brought the recommendation from the Planning Board for the Outdoor Advertising Billboard Ordinance. Presented was the final review for the approval and adoption by the Board. Added was that the State of NC provides for the regulation of billboards in two ways. Chapter 136, Article 11 of General Statutes allows for certain regulations be imposed by NCDOT, also forbidding billboards along scenic byways. Chapter 160D-912 gives Counties and municipalities the authority to billboards through local planning and development ordinances. Draft ordinance before Board does the following: creates different definitions for digital billboards vs. non-digital with billboards only on actively used commercial or industrial properties, no residential properties.
