A high-tech manufacturer has agreed to expand a production facility in Burlington thanks, in part, to newly-approved $100,000 grant from the N.C. Department of Commerce. Matthews International made it official on Monday that it will substantially enlarge its 3,400-square foot plant at 2056 Willow Springs using this building reuse grant, which is one of several such state-level awards that Governor Roy Copper formally announced Thursday.

McMichael Mills, a yarn manufacturer, has notified the state Department of Commerce that the company will close its Burlington facility this spring, resulting in 81 layoffs. McMichael Mills has filed a “Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification” (WARN notice) with the state commerce department, announcing its intention to close its facility at 2050B Willow Springs Lane, which is near Apollo Chemical, in Burlington, effective April 27.

2024 Season-Long Big Bass Tournament Coming to Graham-Mebane Lake: Local Anglers Invited
The 2024 Season-Long Big Bass Tournament (BBT) will be held from March 1 to September 30, 2024, at Graham-Mebane Lake, Mebane, NC. The tournament is open to individuals aged 16 and older, with an entry fee of $25. Participants can fish as often as they want each month, with the heaviest Largemouth Bass caught each month winning that month. There will be seven monthly winners, unless there's a tie. Each monthly winner, along with the Second Chance Tournament winner, receives a one-year Annual User Fee Permit and qualifies for the October Fish-Off.

Elon University's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program's second cohort has achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN, the national licensing exam for nurses. This is the second year in a row that the program's graduates have achieved this. The ABSN program was approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing in January 2021 and received full approval in May 2023.
Alamance County deputies asking for help to find man in attempted abduction, sheriff's office says
BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Alamance County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of an attempted abduction at a school bus stop. Deputies said it happened in the 1700 block of Burch Bridge Road in Burlington.
