New field makes long-awaited debut
The spring season means a new sports playing field on the John F. Kennedy High School campus will get its first tests. Oscar Martinez has coached the varsity defensive line and tight ends on the Kennedy football team since the end of 2020 and has been fighting for the field to be redone for just about as long.
Giant step for East Meadow
All things considered, while the team finished at .500, the East Meadow boys’ lacrosse team had a pretty good season. The Jets’ coach, Joe Cataldo, was in his first varsity season with the program. In just one season, he took a team that went 1-14 in 2023 to 8-8 overall and 6-6 in Conference A this spring, without having seniors spread out all over the field.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Scottie Scheffler’s stressful and adventurous week was almost over. It was time to go home. Finally. As Scheffler waited to tap in his 2-foot par putt on the 72nd hole of one of the longest and most bizarre weeks of his life, he took a long look at the large scoreboard to the right of the green. He assessed...

Metzger, a standout soccer player in the fall, picked off a Valley Stream option pass with five minutes left in...

Melandro, Shah Repeat As Nassau County Doubles Champions
They had been there before. A year ago, Syosset’s Devan Melandro & Nikhil Shah came back from a set down to win the Nassau County Doubles Championship. So, when the duo found themselves in the same position on Sunday, there was no panic. “We told ourselves we could do...
Justin Thomas wanted hometown PGA Championship win ‘a little too bad’
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Justin Thomas didn’t win the PGA Championship in his hometown this week, but he walked off the 18th green after Sunday’s round at Valhalla feeling like a winner. Thomas closed the tournament with a 3-under-par 68 in the final round to finish 13-under par, with a birdie on the last. And, as he was showered with a thunderous ovation on his way off the green, there were tears in his eyes as he clapped back at the galleries. “It was an unbelievable week,” Thomas said. “I’m bummed it’s over. I had so much fun. The fans were unbelievable. I...
