Troopers in Saratoga County responded to I-87 in Wilton shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, May 12, for a broken-down car.

New York State Police said the driver, 34-year-old Jennifer Hagadorn, of Gansevoort, and a passenger, 42-year-old Guy Chadwick, of Queensbury, got into an argument when Hagadorn walked away from the vehicle.

As she did so, Chadwick allegedly released a dog they had been traveling with and the animal was struck by a passing vehicle, suffering severe injuries.

Inside the car, troopers reportedly found a 2-year-old child sitting in an improperly installed car seat, along with multiple used hypodermic needles, controlled drugs, and a glass smoking device.

Hagadorn initially lied about her identity, according to police. Troopers discovered that there was a court-issued protection order barring her from having contact with the child, and her license had been revoked following a prior DWI conviction.

She is charged with the following:

    • Two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance
    • Endangering the welfare of a child
    • Criminal contempt
    • Criminal impersonation
    • Aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child (Leandra’s Law)
    • Aggravated unlicensed operator

    Chadwick is charged with:

    • Criminal possession of a controlled substance
    • Endangering the welfare of a child
    • Torturing or injuring an animal

The child was turned over to a relative and a bystander took the dog to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment.
