This Louisiana Mexican Buffet Is Packed With Homestyle Dishes And All-You-Can-Eat Favorites

Sopapillas with honey are on the buffet line. That alone should explain why some people drive a long way just to eat here. The spread keeps going, too. There’s seafood soup, chile rellenos, tamales, plantains, barbacoa, and a make-your-own taco bar. It all sits under one roof in Louisiana, where Mexican buffets are surprisingly hard to find.

These Louisiana Sandwich Shops Have Deli Meat Fans Coming Back For Another Bite

One New Orleans sandwich shop has five full-time butchers who craft, smoke, and cure over 2,000 pounds of meat every single week. I had to read that twice. That’s a serious amount of salami love. The deli scene here goes way beyond one meaty overachiever. One counter still serves...

Prime Rib Takes Center Stage At This Louisiana Sunday Brunch Buffet

A carving station serving prime rib sits right in the middle of a Sunday brunch buffet. That alone got my attention. The same spread also offers buttermilk waffles, crawfish fettuccine, and grillades. I like how breakfast and Sunday supper share one long table here. Nobody has to pick a lane.

A Layoff, a Cake Decorator and a Strawberry Cake: How the Sherman Family Built The Ambrosia Bakery

Plenty of Baton Rouge birthdays have ended with a slice of strawberry cake from Siegen Lane. The story of how that cake got here starts with a job loss. Felix Sherman worked his way up from delivery route truck driver to branch manager over 27 years, learning how to lead a sales team along the way. Then a company merger took that job. Rather than start over somewhere else, he teamed up with his wife, Cheryl, who had been decorating cakes since the early 1980s and had worked in bakeries and gift shops. The two New Orleans natives opened The Ambrosia Bakery on Dec. 1, 1993.
