It's Mother's Day weekend, which means there are several events happening in the Galesburg area for you to help celebrate your mom with.
Freaky Friday Mother’s Day Movie Night
What: This 2003 classic swaps Anna (Lindsay Lohan) with her mom (Jamie Lee Curtis) so they can experience life in each other’s shoes. Bring your mom to watch the story unfold.

Elementary Earthworks LLC Grand Opening Plant Sale
What: The grand opening sale will feature herbs, vegetables and flowers for sale that were started from seed, including zinnias, marigolds, chamomile, bee balm, parsley, dill, lemongrass, jalapeños, bell peppers, specialty tomatoes and cucumbers. Cash, credit and debit accepted.
When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Grand Opening
What : The Galesburg Chamber of Commerce will help celebrate with a ribbon cutting. Lunch from Hy-Vee will be served. Tour the building, participate in a craft led by the Galesburg Community Arts Center, take photos in the photo booth and meet children’s characters Elephant and Piggie. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the grand opening program and activities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. An ASL interpreter will provide services during the program.

Hy-Vee Carnival
What: The carnival includes the Galesburg Park & Rec mobile playground, dunk and bounce houses, a fast pitch inflatable, sno-cones, meet and greet with Blue and Bingo and food from the Henn House BBQ food truck. Hy-Vee is partnering with the local post office to Stamp Out Hunger. Help feed community families by bringing non-perishable food items to donate.

Derel Monteith at Craft on Seminary
What: The Derel Monteith Trio returns to Craft on Seminary Street with pianist Derel Monteith, bassist Andy Crawford and drummer Jason Brannon.

Spring Open Studio
What: Enjoy open studio time.

Galesburg Farmers Market
What: The Galesburg Farmers' Market is a one-stop-shop for local goods, farm fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and eggs, honey, baked goods and prepared foods to handmade crafts and jewelry.
When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May 11 through September
Where: Downtown Galesburg near the corner of Simmons and Seminary
Second Saturdays: How does your garden grow?
What: Plant vegetables and seeds in the nature center garden bed and explore the Monarch Waystation Gardens and pollinator plot while learning about spring wildflowers. Take home a sunflower to grow. Class is held outdoors at the shelter, with a nature walk through the woods, so dress appropriately. The program is for all ages.
When: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday

Acrylic Abstract Seascapes with Karen Noble
What: Create a seascape. Choose from various examples provided for inspiration, work from your imagination or your own experience. All materials and basic guidance provided, as Karen paints her own abstract version of sky, water and sailboats.
When: 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday

What : Create a craft for Mother’s Day.

Little Sprouts: Backyard Adventurer
What: Take home supplies to create a backyard adventurer kit. Class will be outdoors at the Lakeside Nature Center Shelter, with a nature walk through the woods, so dress appropriately. In inclement weather, this will inside the Nature Center building. For ages 2-5 and a caregiver.

Sandburg Song Bag Series
What: The Songbag Concert Series, named for Carl Sandburg's collection of songs and stories The American Songbag, aims to present musical showcases that honor the legacy of Carl Sandburg as a poet, writer, activist, musician and prophet. The first set starts at 2 p.m. and the second starts at 3:15 p.m. Refreshments served between sets. The performer May 12 is Carrie Sue and the Wood Burners of Urbana.

What: The Rootabaga Jazz Festival features trumpeter Victor Garcia with three different groups, along with the Knox Alumni Big Band, the Faculty and Friends Combo, the Knox Jazz Ensemble, and area junior high and high school big bands. The Great Pages Circus
What: Performers are joined by liberty ponies, horses and camels that highlight aerial, juggling and clown acts. Earhart’s Globe of Death may make an appearance with adrenaline-rushing motorcycle mayhem.
