STAFFORD - The Stafford Township Police Department recently reported about another great act of service in our community. An hour and a half south of Washington, D.C. lies a small air museum with a remarkable collection, including one-of-a-kind airplanes. Sidney Shannon Jr. was a businessman and pilot whose father was one of the founders of Eastern Air Lines. In 1950, Shannon founded Shannon Airport, an airport for general aviation (small, private planes) just outside of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Parking fees at the Historic Port of Falmouth Park (HPOF) return start on Saturday. Residents of Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg will park for free with a valid ID showing residence. The fee is $25 for non-resident visitors to park on Saturdays and Sundays. Fees will continue through September 4, 2023.

School boards across the nation are prohibiting certain books from classrooms due to their sexually explicit or otherwise controversial content. Parents who advocate for these book bans say that they aim to protect their children from graphic topics, leaving educators scrambling to defend variety within classrooms and libraries. As the wave of book bans reaches Virginia, public schools are being forced to consider the balance between students’ exploration and protection through literature.
