The FredNats walked off against the Shorebirds for the second time this week, in an eventful 8-7 victory. Daylen Lile drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, stole second base, and then scored the games’ first run on a Sammy Infante double. Infante later swiped third base, setting him up to score on a Paul Witt sacrifice fly to put Fredericksburg ahead 2-0.

The Fredericksburg winning streak died at eight games in a 7-3 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday night. The FredNats, the Low-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, struck first, in the bottom of the second inning. Murphy Stehly lined the first pitch of the frame back up the middle for a double, then later stole third base as Armando Cruz drew a walk.
Kayla Sarazin to Play in IWLCA Senior All-Star Game
The IWLCA has announced the rosters for the 2023 Senior All-Star games for Division I, II, and III. The players selected in each Division have been divided into two teams: North and South. The Senior All-Star games will be held on Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. on Saturday, June 3, 2023. The Division II teams will play the first game at 10:00 am ET, the Division III game will follow at 12:15 pm, and the Division I teams will cap off the event with their game at 2:30 pm. Admission for all three games is free of charge.
Fredericksburg Nationals win Saturday-night tilt with Delmarva Shorebirds, 7-1
The Fredericksburg Nationals handled their business against the Delmarva Shorebirds in a 7-1 win on Saturday night. After an RBI double from Paul Witt in the bottom of the first, Fredericksburg, the Low-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, really opened things up in the home half of the second. Geraldi Diaz and Cortland Lawson both worked walks, then Brenner Cox ripped a line drive off the glove of second baseman Erison Placencia and into right field as both runs came in to score.

Bobby Ayscue, Ty Lowe Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team
University of Mary Washington junior outfielder Bobby Ayscue and junior utility player Ty Lowe have been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region VI team, announced on Tuesday. Ayscue was named as a second team selection after hitting .366 in 44 games, with 18 doubles, five triples, and three home runs. He scored 48 runs and drove in 35, and stole 14 bases.

Winners from the Marine Corps Marathon Historic Half
The Marine Corps hosted its Historic Half Marathon last month with hundreds of runners racing around Fredericksburg. The event featured not only the half marathon, but also the Semper Five and Devil Dog Double events. The Semper Five is a five-mile run while the Devil Dog Double combines the Historic Half -- which covers 13.1 miles from Central Park, through the city’s historic streets, along the river and up Hospital Hill -- with the Semper Five course for a challenging 18.1 miles.

Jonathan Ladson, age 31, from Dale City, Va. was the first to cross the finish line of the Devil Dog Double with a new course record of 1:41:22. “My goal for today was to come back and defend my title,” said Ladson. “I felt really good and came through the 13.1 way ahead of the course record so I wanted to push harder.” The previous record was 1:43:56 set in 2019 by Matt O’Neil.

FredNats split doubleheader
The Fredericksburg Nationals and Columbia Fireflies split a doubleheader to wrap up their six game series, with Columbia taking four of six games on the week. In the first game, the FredNats got on the board in the second inning. Wilmer Perez singled, then Cortland Lawson blasted a triple off the wall in right field. It was a very close play at the plate, but a nifty slide from Perez allowed him to score and put the Nats ahead 1-0.
As big baseball decision draws closer, Colonial Forge's Zyhir Hope stays in the moment
Zyhir Hope stepped back a few paces to his right as he waited for the rubber ball rolling toward him. Then with his right foot, he blasted the ball between second and third base before arriving safely at first. Hope, who volunteered to lead off the batting order, eventually scored as the high fives and clapping ensued in a pick-up game of kickball between the Colonial Forge baseball and softball teams.
