Stephen Pina message to coach's dad led to removal from subcommittees | Exclusive
Brockton School Committee member Stephen Pina was removed from all subcommittees over a message he sent the father of a district employee. The vote was taken in executive session, a meeting held privately to discuss sensitive topics like personnel matters. A complaint regarding Pina was discussed during a Sept. 15 committee meeting, according to the agenda. Over the course of multiple phone interviews with The Enterprise, Pina and Vice Chair Claudio Gomes offered conflicting accounts of why the message could have led members to vote him off subcommittees — which are akin to working groups for areas like athletics, safety and teacher's union negotiations. Pina said Oct. 7 he was removed because, in the message, he expressed his belief that girls should not play on Brockton High's boys football team, and other members disagreed with this view. Gomes said Oct. 13 there were other reasons. "The fact that he's still trying to make his one-sided story is just insane," Gomes said. Gomes said he is not allowed to discuss what happened in executive session. But he said he could offer his opinion as someone interpreting publicly available information. Ramen Haven plans Braintree opening; Mill Wharf to close Nov. 14

Milford High School names Term 1 honor roll students
Milford High School students in the classes of 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 have been named to the Term 1 High Honor Roll and Honor Roll. The students were recognized by Milford Public Schools in an announcement Nov. 4, according to a community announcement. Franklin High football's MIAA playoff hopes dashed by Andover
The Franklin football team found itself in a spot it's in every year on Thursday night, November 5. The Panthers were back in the MIAA Division 1 state playoffs, a trip they have made each full season since 2019. Yet, for the fourth straight fall, the Panthers couldn't get over the first-round hump, as the eighth-seeded Panthers couldn't hold off hard-charging No. 9-seed Andover in a 56-21 victory for the visitors. It marked the third time since 2019 that Andover had defeated Franklin in the postseason. More: MetroWest high school football schedule/live scores (Nov. 5-7) Among the bright spots for the host Panthers (6-3) was sophomore quarterback Ethan Edmunds, who was 34-for-51 passing for 270 yards and three touchdowns in addition to 68 yards rushing. Additionally, Ben Scullin had eight catches for 65 yards and two TDs for Franklin, while Iyad Fraifer had nine catches for 102 yards and a TD. Christian Holmes added 13 catches for 86 yards for the Panthers. For Andover, senior Marcus DeJesus ran for four touchdowns and caught another in the convincing victory. Taunton residents get free yard waste drop off days
Taunton residents can dispose of leaves, grass clippings and branches for free during four yard waste drop-off dates in November. Mayor Shaunna O'Connell and the Department of Public Works partnered to offer the program, according to a community announcement. Free yard waste drop-off will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28 at the City Convenience Center, 330 East Britannia St., Taunton. Residents must provide proof of residency.
