East Idaho voters pass majority of school levies on ballot

East Idaho voters approved 10 of 11 school levies on the ballot in the Nov. 3 election, according to unofficial results. The only levy that did not pass was the School District 253 supplemental levy in Jefferson County, which failed 401 votes, or 56.32 percent, to 311 votes, or 43.68 percent.

East Idaho voters approved seven of eight local ballot measures in the Nov. 3 election, according to unofficial results. The only measure that did not pass was the Bear Lake Fire District permanent override levy in Bear Lake County. It needed a two-thirds majority and received 34.43 percent. Here are the results of local ballot measures in East Idaho: Bonneville County City of Ammon levy: two-year temporary levy of $1.25 million a year for street construction, repair and maintenance (passed) Yes: 3,843 (61.32 percent)No: 2,424 (38.68 percent)It replaces a levy that expires Dec. 31 and is estimated to cost $49.34 per $100,000 of taxable value, $1.70 less than the current rate. Bannock County ballot-counting problems delay results in Pocatello, other legislative races

POCATELLO — Bannock County elections officials were still counting votes early Wednesday after machine problems slowed the absentee tally for more than five hours. Elections workers began processing early walk-in ballots about 4 p.m. Tuesday, hoping to have all early and absentee ballots counted by 9 p.m., Bannock County Clerk Jason Dixon said. Instead, the absentee count stretched past 2 a.m. Wednesday. As of 3:40 a.m., the county had counted 21,042 ballots. All 57 precincts had partially reported, but none had fully reported. Dixon said final tallies of votes cast in Bannock County are expected around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. When the Idaho State Journal spoke with a red-eyed Dixon at the Bannock County Elections Office just after 4 a.m., the county’s three counting machines hummed in the background as they worked through the last of the Election Day ballots. Elections Director Julie Hancock moved briskly around the room, ferrying ballots to and from a resolution table staffed by volunteers who hadn’t left their seats in hours.
