This Idaho Drive-In Is Still Lighting Up The Screen For Kids Whose Parents Grew Up There

New Pocatello salon puts kids in the driver’s seat for haircuts
POCATELLO — Getting a child to sit still for a haircut can be challenging enough. Getting them into the chair in the first place can sometimes be even harder. A new Pocatello salon hopes that letting them climb into a bright red race car or pink Jeep might help. Smiles & Styles Kids Cuts recently opened at 1023 Yellowstone Avenue, in the plaza across from WinCo Foods, offering haircuts and other salon services with a special focus on children. Owner Sam Hanini said the salon is designed to make haircuts fun and less intimidating for young customers. Kids can climb into colorful vehicle-shaped ...

Twenty dollars for a name
Byrd Trego, editor of the Idaho Republican newspaper, held up a $20 gold piece and announced a contest to name Blackfoot’s newest hotel. He went on to say that Blackfoot was not noted for the beauty of its names — Snake River, insane asylum, desert, lava beds — to name a few. None that would “charm the visitor. The opportunity was open for Blackfoot to have something that will suit, that attracts, rather than repels, and the projectors of this enterprise invite everybody to participate in suggesting a name. It is desirable that the name shall be easily spoken, and preference is likely to be given to an Indian name that is smooth and musical and that has a suitable significance.”

Pocatello's Haunted History Tours return to kick off Halloween season featuring downtown's warehouse district
POCATELLO — The wailing whispers of wraiths will echo in Historic Downtown’s warehouse district when the annual Haunted History Tours return Saturday and into the Halloween season. Attendees of the popular downtown event, now in its 16th year, will tour four warehouse district buildings that are normally closed or restricted to the public, including two basement levels. Nothing is staged, and no actors are waiting in the shadows, so any frights guests experience could be paranormal in nature. “We don’t have ghosts in the corners and people popping out at you,” said Stephanie Palagi, president and CEO of Historic Downtown Pocatello. “None of this is staged.” Opening night is Saturday, Oct. 3. The tours return on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 24. Groups leave every 30 minutes from 6 to 8 p.m., starting at the Avenue Event Center at the Museum of Clean, 711 S. Second Ave. Each group follows a guide on a walk of about 10 blocks through the streets and buildings of the district. Organizers suggest guests arrive 10 minutes before their tour starts. At each location, guests will have the chance to explore sections of the building while they learn historical facts and details about one

The Avenue Event Center to host haunted tours, 35-table pool tournament, and more this fall
POCATELLO — A downtown event space that has sat largely in the shadow of the Museum of Clean for 15 years is getting a new name, a fresh coat of paint and a bustling fall calendar, starting with a haunted history tour this weekend and continuing with a statewide pool tournament. The Avenue Event Center is a 7,500 square-foot space affixed to the southeast portion of the Museum of Clean at 711 S. 2nd Ave. It's being relaunched as a new community gathering place that's one of the largest open, uninterrupted floor spaces in Southeast Idaho, according to Emily Monroe, the center's director. "We're in our yes era," Monroe said. "We are really open to being a flexible space that is open for anybody who has an idea to come into a space they need. We love seeing people utilize it for the community. That's our biggest thing." The Avenue will kick off with a fright at the annual Haunted History Tour, held in collaboration with Historic Downtown Pocatello. The Avenue serves as the gathering point before groups move into the Museum of Clean, the tour's first stop. Tours begin Saturday and continue Oct. 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24. Monroe said
