Dump truck ends up in Moss Lake
A private contractor doing dredging work at Moss Lake lost a dump truck in the water Wednesday afternoon, according to Kings Mountain city officials. City Manager Jim Palenick said that according to Thomas Wilkinson, who owns the dredging company, the truck slid into the water at the Moss Lake Park located on New Camp Creek Church Road. Workers on site said it rolled down the boat ramp and into about 20 feet of water around 1 p.m. The dump truck was completely out of sight and submerged in the lake. Two Stanley Truck and Auto wreckers were on site and two divers were in the water attempting to figure out what to hook the cables to on the submerged truck.

Health department offers free pill disposal to prevent drug overdoses
As drug overdose deaths and emergency department visits continue to rise in Cleveland County, the Cleveland County Health Department is providing free resources to help prevent medication misuse and abuse. According to NCDHHS, Cleveland County experienced 36 overdose deaths in 2022 and 241 overdose ED visits in 2023. Almost 40% of all overdose ED visits in Cleveland County in 2022 were due to commonly prescribed opioids.
