Prosecutor claims public records battle has compelled her to hire another staffer

In a motion seeking to dismiss a citizen’s request for a court order in a legal dispute over public records, the Hocking County Prosecutor’s office claims that plaintiff Melanie Ogle is pursuing her litigation “for the sole purpose of harassing the office of the Hocking County Prosecuting Attorney and wasting taxpayer money.” The motion complains that Ogle “continues to bombard the Hocking County Prosecuting Attorney’s office with frivolous and baseless public records requests and litigation to the point where the prosecutor has been forced to hire an additional assistant prosecutor.” Ogle, who lives in Rockbridge, submitted a public records request to the prosecutor’s office in June 2025, seeking records related to past criminal cases involving her and her husband. She found the office’s response unsatisfactory, and filed a complaint with the Ohio Court of Claims. In May of this year that court ruled that Ogle’s records request was “overly broad and unenforceable.” She then appealed that ruling to Ohio’s Fourth District Court of Appeals, and is also seeking a writ of mandamus to compel Prosecutor Jennifer Graham to produce the records Ogle has asked for. Ohio's history stretches back centuries, and some of it is carved into the sandstone of southern Ohio. But exactly how old those carvings are remains a mystery to this day. The Leo Petroglyphs are a series of ancient rock carvings in southern Ohio that were likely created by people of the Fort Ancient culture, according to the Ohio History Connection . Their exact age, however, is unknown. Here's what to know about the centuries-old carvings and what historians know about their origins. Based on the weathering of the sandstone, the Ohio History Connection says that the carvings are probably no more than 1,000 years old and were likely created by people of the Fort Ancient culture. The site contains 37 petroglyphs, or figures carved into a sandstone outcrop, depicting humans, birds, human and animal footprints, a fish, a snake and other figures.
