Pedestrian hit by train in Erie PA dies as police investigate accident

A 40-year-old man struck by a westbound freight train in Erie on Thursday afternoon has died of his injuries.

The man died at UPMC Hamot on Thursday at 10:13 p.m. of multiple blunt-force trauma, according to the Erie County Coroner's Office. Coroner Lyell Cook has not yet released the man's name, saying that police on Friday were still attempting to locate the man's family.

The Erie Bureau of Police is continuing to investigate the accident. Cook said toxicology testing will be done on the man.

The accident was reported at about 2:40 p.m. Thursday in the area of East 15th and Wayne streets. Erie police and firefighters rushed to the area and found the train stopped on tracks near East 14th and French streets.

Additional information on the accident was not available Friday.
