Finalists revealed in East Mills, Sidney shared superintendent search
(Malvern-Sidney) -- Three finalists have been named in the East Mills and Sidney shared superintendent search. Schools officials with the two districts announced Thursday they have narrowed their search to Steven Barber, Michael Brown, and Troy Damman. Currently the interim superintendent of the Grinnell-Newburg School District, Barber holds superintendent licensure in advanced studies and a master's degree in education from Iowa State University. He has also served as superintendent of the Atlantic School District.
Second Shen police residency hearing set
(Shenandoah) -- Another public hearing is set on a proposed amendment to Shenandoah's police residency ordinance. By a 3-2 vote Tuesday evening, the Shenandoah City Council set the hearing for April 9th. At that hearing, the council will hear public comments on whether to reconsider a 3-2 vote last month to reject the proposed amendment. City officials proposed the amendment to allow Shenandoah Police to hire a part-time out-of-state police officer. Council members set the hearing following another emotionally-charged discussion. Council members Toni Graham and Kim Swank once again voted against the hearing. Among other things, Swank questioned why Omaha resident John Kuebler didn't apply for one of the department's full-time officer positions.
Statewide Tornado Drill
(Atlantic) Tornado sirens blasted across the state, reminding the public that severe weather season is upon us and it is time to get prepared. It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa, and today is Tornado Drill Day. Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon says now is the time to prepare for severe weather.
Sidney council sets hearing on Filmore Street improvement project
(Sidney) -- Sidney officials have taken the next step towards a major street improvement project. During its regular meeting Monday, the Sidney City Council unanimously approved setting a hearing for its April 22nd meeting on several items related to the Filmore Street Improvement Project. Plans call for reconstructing Filmore from Illinois Street near the downtown square to 290th Avenue near city limits, addressing sewer and water infrastructure, and installing or repairing sidewalks. Rick Allely is with Ulteig Engineers, whom the city contracted with for the engineering services on the project. Allely says the hearing is a chance for the council and the public to hear the details of the project.
Glenwood board rejects revenue bond proposal
(Glenwood) -- Discussion regarding proposed building projects in the Glenwood School District took another twist Monday night. By a 4-1 vote, the Glenwood School Board rejected setting a public hearing for April 8th on a proposed $5 million revenue bond utilizing the district's sales tax funding. School officials proposed using the district's sales tax dollars to cover a myriad of building projects. Those same projects were part of a proposed revenue purpose statement extension rejected by voters earlier this month. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Tuesday morning, Glenwood School Superintendent Dr. Devin Embray says the projects would provide a new location for facilities currently located at the Glenwood Resource Center, which closes in June.
