2 arrested Wednesday afternoon/evening in Red Oak
(Red Oak, Iowa) – Police in Red Oak report two men were arrested on separate charges, late Wednesday afternoon/evening. At around 4:45-p.m., officers arrested 36-year-old Bryce Michael McKinnon, of Clarinda. He was taken into custody in the 1100 block of N. 5th Street, for Assault and Interference with Official Acts. McKinnon was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 bond.
2 accidents in Red Oak; Minor injuries reported
(Red Oak, Iowa) – Police in Red Oak report there were two recent accidents. Monday afternoon, vehicles driven by 43-year-old Rocky Howard Rocha, of Stanton, and 68-year-old John Thomas Anderson, of Maryville, MO, collided on Highway 34, just south of the Red Coach Inn, in Red Oak. The accident happened at around 2:52-p.m., when Rocha – who was driving a 2019 Dodge SUV eastbound – made a left turn into oncoming traffic, and struck a westbound 2019 Chevy pickup driven by Anderson. The Chevy then entered the north ditch. Both drivers suffered minor injuries, but were not transported to the hospital. Both vehicles were a total loss. Red Oak Police cited Rocha for Failure to Yield upon making a left turn.
Montgomery County traffic stop results in 2 arrests
(Red Oak) -- A pair of suspects face charges following a traffic stop in Montgomery County Wednesday afternoon. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says a deputy stopped a car for speeding shortly before 3:15 p.m. at U.S. Highway 34 and 8th Street. Authorities say the driver, 36-year-old Ashley Lamonte Roberson of Sioux City was arrested for driving while barred and speeding.
Montgomery County Man arrested on Assault Charges

Red Oak board approves third reading of school violence policy
(Red Oak) -- Like all districts across KMAland, the Red Oak School District is adopting a new policy dealing with school violence. Meeting in regular session Wednesday night, the Red Oak School Board unanimously approved the third and final reading of a policy regarding threats of violence and threat assessment questions. Red Oak School Superintendent Ron Lorenz says the move comes in response to action by the Iowa Legislature last spring that mandated school districts to implement such policies.
UPDATE: Local agencies answer Shen nursing home evacuation call
(Shenandoah) -- Numerous local agencies responded to a carbon monoxide leak at a Shenandoah nursing facility Thursday morning. Shortly after 9 a.m., Shenandoah's Fire Department and Shenandoah EMS responded to Accura HealthCare of Shenandoah at 1203 South Elm Street for a reported carbon monoxide leak within the facility. Upon first responders' arrival, nursing home staff were in the process of evacuating residents per protocol. Firefighters entered the building and discovered high levels of carbon monoxide within the structure and confirmed a full evacuation was necessary.
McQueen lauds progress on Johnson Brothers Mill renovation
(Shenandoah) -- Efforts to renovate a property considered a longtime eyesore in Shenandoah are attracting Mayor Roger McQueen's attention. Earlier this week, MALOJA LLC owner Margaret Brady updated McQueen and the Shenandoah City Council on the continuing renovation of the Johnson Brothers Mill Building, Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program earlier this week, McQueen says he's amazed at Brady and her company have accomplished since restoration work began about six months ago.
Kohn to step down as Glenwood mayor
(Glenwood) -- Glenwood Mayor Ron Kohn is stepping down from his elected position. Meeting in regular session Tuesday night, the Glenwood City Council unanimously approved Kohn's resignation due to personal circumstances and to move forward with filling the vacancy by appointment. City Administrator Amber Farnan says the council had two options to fill the vacancy--calling a special election or filling it by appointment. She notes either process would need to be completed within 60 days of Tuesday's "effective date" of the resignation. Farnan adds that there are a few additional requirements that come with appointing for the position.

Johnson Brothers Mill cleanup continues
(Shenandoah) -- Progress is reported on the renaissance of a venerable Shenandoah building. By a 4-0 vote Tuesday night, the Shenandoah City Council authorized the city clerk to pay C.J. Kimpston Roofing $86,750 for roof coverings and Pella Windows and Doors more than $19,700 for windows replaced on the Johnson Brothers Mill Building. Council members took action following an update from MALOJA LLC owner Margaret Brady, who is spearheading the building's renovation. Brady says workers have completed numerous tasks in the continuing project.
Town hall meeting set for Page County EMS
(Shenandoah) -- Representatives of Page County's EMS agencies are hoping to address questions regarding an important topic at a special meeting next week. KMAland residents are invited to a town hall meeting next Wednesday evening at 7 at the Isaac Walton Lodge on Highway 2. At that meeting, attendees can learn more information regarding a proposal designating the county's emergency medical services as essential services. Shenandoah EMS Director Ty Davison is serving as the community's spokesperson on the issue. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program, Davison hopes the meeting clears up any "muddy waters" connected to the proposed designation.

(Shenandoah) -- Owners of a new real estate business in KMAland are hoping to make prime farmland available for outdoor enthusiasts. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies took place Wednesday morning for Arrowhead Realty Company's Shenandoah location at 600 South Fremont Street, suite 1-A. Arrowhead's Shenandoah office is one of three planned for the area--others are Clarinda and Red Oak. Owners Tony and Lea Haynes relocated to the community, and renovated a building in the Orchard Corners Shopping Center into their new offices.
