Illinois soldier laid to rest 74 years after Korean War death
ELWOOD, Ill. - The remains of an Illinois soldier were laid to rest on Wednesday, 74 years after he passed away in the Korean War. Army Private First Class Bryan Myers, 21, died in September 1950 while fighting in the Korean War. His remains were only identified in February 2024 after being exhumed from the Punchbowl Cemetery in Hawaii in March 2019.
Railroad crossing at Liberty and Grant streets to close June 10-14
The railroad crossing at Liberty and Grant streets in Morris will close from Monday, June 10 to Thursday, June 14 for road improvements. Detour signs will be posted, and motorists will be asked to find an alternative route. The road should be reopened by Friday, June 15 for travel.
Companies Recommended to Lead Joliet Comprehensive Plan Final Vote Goes to Full Council in Late June.
The City of Joliet Land Use & Economic Development Committee met today to discuss and recommend two companies to lead the city’s efforts to complete a long-term comprehensive plan. A comprehensive plan is a visioning document that guides the choices and civic investments of a community based on the feedback from within that community. Joliet has not completed a long-term comprehensive plan for nearly six decades. Such plans are usually performed every 10 years.
Shred Day for residents
Romeville – In an effort to help protect residents from identity theft and help remove clutter from their homes, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, partnered with the City of Romeoville, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, and ABRI Credit Union to host a free Shred Day event May 18. Attendees of the event were able to dispose of documents containing sensitive information, such as bank statements and medical records, to keep them safe from potential fraud.
