The Venue set to reopen as The Stargazer Lounge next month in Morehead
Live music will soon be returning to a location in downtown Morehead. The Venue was closed in March of last year after the now-former owners suffered a family accident. Lori Fries and Patrick Dawson are the new owners of The Venue, which will be reopening under a new name, The Stargazer Lounge. Fries said their goal is to create a space for the community to come together and enjoy different kinds of music.

Rowan County road crews exploring new pothole fix
Rowan County road crews are exploring a new means to repair potholes on county roads. Steve Kelsey is the Foreman of the Rowan County Road Department. He said a representative from EZ Street Asphalt brought a sample of their product for the department to try out, and Kelsey said he was pleased with the outcome. As a result, the county has purchased several pallets of the new asphalt.

A musical safari came to Morehead. The Cave Run Symphony Orchestra brought animals, jokes and incredible music to the Morehead Conference Center with their Symphony on Safari concert Sunday afternoon. Fun animal themes appealed to children, and the instrument “petting zoo” held before the performance. Elementary aged children had the opportunity to meet the instruments through music education students from Morehead State University.

An international student follows his passion
A student has journeyed thousands of miles to be a part of the cheer team at Morehead State University. In Antonio Pires’ hometown of Brasilia, he participated in gymnastics for six years before enrolling at the University of São Paulo. However, the closest gymnastics-related activity the university offered was its cheer program. After giving the program a try, Pires fell in love with the sport.

Work Begins on $3 Million Upgrade of US 60 in Carter County
FLEMINGSBURG – Work’s now under way on a $3 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet improvement project along four miles of US 60 in Carter County. The project includes ditching and shoulder upgrades, culvert and drainage pipe improvements, drainage repairs at multiple locations, full guardrail replacement, resurfacing, and other enhancements to improve the stability and safety of the important state highway.

MUPB officials give update on 2023 water service and ongoing projects
Morehead Utility Plant Board officials recently gave city council an update on their ongoing projects. MUPB General Manager Holly McGrath-Rosas said the utility had a good year in 2023 in terms of water treatment, with last year having been the second highest production year in history. She also mentioned the new water treatment plant currently under construction is progressing nicely, with around 60% of the work completed.
