    3 pedestrians, including 2 children, struck by NYC-based news van in Elizabeth

    Three pedestrians were struck by a New York City-based news van Friday in Elizabeth.

    Ruby Contreras, the city's public information officer, confirmed to News 12 New Jersey that two minors and their adult aunt were struck on the way to school. All victims are being transported to University Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

    Witnesses in the area say the aunt and two children were crossing Elizabeth Avenue in the crosswalk when they were hit by the news van. The van, belonging to WPIX Channel 11, eventually came to a stop in the intersection.

    News 12 was told the woman was injured and had to be rescued from underneath the van. One of the children, believed to be around 10 years old, suffered a leg injury.

    Witnesses told News 12 the van was making a left from 5th Street onto Elizabeth Avenue when the male driver hit the victim's crossing.

    The van was believed to have been heading to the scene of fire a few blocks away on Elizabeth Avenue .

    News 12 was told the driver stayed on the scene and was questioned by police. There's no word yet on whether the driver will face any charges.

    News 12 reached out to WPIX for comment on the incident.
