Glass vs. metal air fryers. Weighing the benefits and risks

When I suggested teaching an air fryer workshop at the Coshocton County District Library last spring, I never imagined how popular the topic would be. After teaching four programs throughout the county this year to more than 100 people, I am feeling more confident than ever the air fryer is here to stay. One of the main reasons is convenience, especially in cooking for one or two people. There are different styles of air fryers offering different advantages. The basket type is one of the most common. The drawer-like basket can hold foods helpful to toss or easily turn like vegetables or chicken. The other most common style looks like a larger toaster oven. It often has a glass front door and is nice for items that are easy to place on the racks. I had an excellent question at one of the recent air fryer classes about the new basket type air fryers that use a glass bowl rather than metal. Is there an advantage? Is this the wave of the future with air fryers? The glass bowl is one of the latest product changes in response to consumer concern over PFAS, per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances.
