Prince George roundabout project starts with detours
Work has begun on a long-awaited traffic roundabout on a main Prince George County road, and that means long-term detours will be in place. In an announcement Nov. 6, the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2027. The roundabout "will improve safety and operations at the intersection," VDOT said. Motorists heading to and from Hopewell and the Prince George courthouse area are being directed to use state Route 156, also known as Prince George Drive, and state Route 106, Courthouse Road. Trucks and other large commercial vehicles will be directed to use Courthouse Road, state Route 36 and state Route 10 to get around the construction area. VDOT describes the roundabout as a single-lane circular project with drainage and lighting improvements. Similar roundabouts exist at the intersection of Jefferson Park, Allin and Bull Hill roads near the Fort Lee back gate, and at the intersection of Allin and Courthouse roads. A roundabout in the shape of a dog bone was recently completed at the intersection of Courthouse and Bull Hill roads.
