Edenton to host Boogie on Broad tonight

TODAYRed Cross blood drive

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Albemarle Area Association of Realtors’ main room at 426 McArthur Drive, Elizabeth City.

Second primary

Early voting continues for the May 14 Republican second primary for lieutenant governor and state auditor. Only voters registered Republican or unaffiliated who voted in the March 5 GOP primary may vote. Area boards of election will be open for voting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through May 10. Early voting will also be held on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Paint the Harbor

Arts of the Albemarle will host “Paint the Harbor of Hospitality,” a watercolor workshop series at AoA’s Madrin Studio from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. JudyLynn Hooser will be the instructor for all three classes. Cost is $35 per class or $90 for all three. Contact: Artsaoa.org/events.

Boogie on Broad

The Adrian Duke Project will perform for Boogie on Broad Street, an annual street dance-festival in Edenton, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Easels in Gardens

Easels in the Gardens, an event sponsored by the Cupola House Association, will feature tours of 10 private and four public gardens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both today and Saturday. A Grand Finale Garden Party and art sale will be held at the Cupola House Gardens on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Spring Garden Show

The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Chowan, Gates and Perquimans counties will hold their annual Spring Garden Show at the Perquimans County Recreation Center at 310 Granby St., Hertford, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show features vendors and exhibitors marketing garden-related goods and services, a children’s garden for activities, raffles, an Ask a Master Gardener booth, and a plant sale. Proceeds go toward the Katherine G. Shook Master Gardener Scholarship fund. Admission is free.

Farmers Market festival

The Edenton Farmers Market Spring Festival will be held at the Farmers Market on Broad Street from 8 a.m. to noon.

Open Life Drawing

Arts of the Albemarle will host “Open Life Drawing” session for artists of all skill levels in the AoA Madrin Studio. Cost is $5 for high school students and $10 for adults. Pay at the door. Bring your own supplies and medium of choice.

Pig on Perquimans

Camp Cale will host Pig on the Perquimans, an annual fundraising event, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Event will include lunch served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a barbecue cooking competition, a bake sale, silent auction, and vendor fair.

Viking Sound

Arts of the Albemarle will host an open house for Viking Sound Studios in AoA’s Twiford Room from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Students interested in music classes and private classes are encouraged to attend.

Bocce, Beer, & Bites

The Albemarle Area United Way will host its annual Bocce, Beer & Bites event at Waterfront Park in Elizabeth City from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Spectator tickets are $30 and include a barbecue lunch, two craft beers and a Kona shaved ice. Sounds of Soul

The Elizabeth City State University Choir and Studio 137 will perform for the Sounds of Soul concert at the Maguire Theater from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 for students, $25 general admission, and $30 at the door. Students should call (252) 777-2787 to get discount. Visit Artsaoa.org/events.

Coin Week at museum

in honor of National Coin Week, Museum of the Albemarle will host a program on coin collecting for students in grades 1-5 at 10 a.m.

Church yard sale

Holy Trinity Community Church will hold a yard sale at 7 a.m. A dinner sale starts at 10 a.m.

Albemarle Chorale

The Albemarle Chorale will present “A Woman’s Voice: Music by Women” at Edenton United Methodist Church in Edenton and again on Sunday, May 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City. The program will showcase music written by women spanning the years from classical to contemporary. omen Both concerts begin at 4 p.m. Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

EC Rotary Club

Rotarian Dr. Jack Bagwell will host the Elizabeth City Rotary Club at College of The Albemarle at 1 pm. Dr. Lisa Meads will give a presentation on the STEAM Team. Following the program members will take a walk along the Fenwick-Howell Wetlands Trail.

Library programs

The Pasquotank Library will host a program on “superheroes” for kids ages 3-5 with an adult, Tuesday; kids ages 1-2 with an adult on Wednesday; and kids ages birth to 1 on Thursday, May 2. All classes are at 10 a.m.

Fleet Reserve Assn.

Newbold-White House

The Perquimans County Restoration Center will reopen the Newbold-White House in Hertford for the season starting Saturday, May 4. Guided tours and gift shop hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday through Oct. 26. Other tour days can be arranged with two weeks notice by calling 252-426-7567.

Paddle for the Border

The 19th annual Paddle for the Border canoeing/kayaking event will launch from the canal bridge at the Dismal Swamp State Park in South Mills Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m. Participants will paddle 7.5 miles along the Dismal Swamp Canal to the Ballahack Boat Ramp in Chesapeake, Virginia. The event is sold out.

Scouts’ doughnut sale

Boy Scout Troop 150 of Hertford will sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts outside the Walmart Supercenter and Tractor Supply in Elizabeth City, Saturday, May 4, starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 a box.

Run with Mary 5K

The Run with Mary 5K for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness is a 5K fundraiser that honors Mary Morrison Gillam, a Camden County mother of three and runner who died from pancreatic cancer. Runners will start from Waterfront Park May 11 at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $35 and all proceeds go to cancer research at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where Gillam received care. A post-race celebration will be held at Seven Sounds Brewing Company. For tickets, visit the Run with Mary 5K website.

Spring Flea Market

NC Potato Festival

The three-day 2024 NC Potato Festival will be held in downtown Elizabeth City will be held May 17-19. The event features amusement rides, an auto and bike show, free french fries, food and game vendors, live musical entertainment. Featured events include the National Potato Peeling Contest and the Little Miss Tater Tot Contest.
