CHIPPEWA FALLS — An Eau Claire man was sentenced Monday to serve a three-year prison sentence for making threats to law enforcement last May.

Kevin M. Oshea, 40, 1807 Omaha St., was convicted last November in Chippewa County Court of three counts of battery or threats to a judge, prosecutor or law enforcement. Other charges, including disorderly conduct and bail jumping, were read-in and dismissed.

At the sentencing Monday, Judge James Isaacson ordered the prison sentence, along with three years of extended supervision. Oshea must pay $1,614 in court costs and must submit a DNA sample. Oshea must complete any counseling, including a mental health assessment. While on extended supervision, he cannot consume alcohol or enter taverns. Oshea was given credit for 348 days already served, so he has roughly two years remaining in his sentence.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to the Sand Bar and Grill in the town of Lafayette on May 10 on a report of “an agitated male subject who was trying to start fights.”

Officers determined that Oshea was intoxicated. When they attempted to detain him, he shouted and swore at the officers. When taken to a squad car, Oshea resisted being placed in the vehicle, and he attempted to kick an officer’s leg. He also struck the hand of an officer with his foot, smashing it against a patrol vehicle’s door. At the jail, he kicked the rear passenger window inside the squad car. Eventually, an officer deployed a Taser into Oshea’s abdomen to subdue him. Throughout his fighting and resistance, he swore at and threatened multiple officers.

Oshea was originally held on a $5,000 cash bond but was later released on a signature bond. However, he was taken into custody again on Aug. 24 and has been incarcerated since then, jail records show. After Oshea entered his guilty plea, Isaacson revoked the signature bond.

In 2010, Oshea was convicted in Chippewa County Court of possession of meth, stalking, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct by use of a dangerous weapon. In that case, he drove to his ex-girlfriend’s house, smashed in the windows to her vehicle and broke into her residence. Oshea admitted to both the damage and the break-in. He was sentenced to serve one year in jail and three years of probation.

Oshea also was convicted in Eau Claire County Court in 2003 of possession of amphetamines with the intent to deliver, and he served a one-year jail sentence on that conviction as well.
