Toledo area produces 7 winners at girls wrestling regional
MARYSVILLE, Ohio — Although she came in as a No. 1 seed for the regional girls wrestling tournament Sunday at Marysville, Gibsonburg junior Morgan Leonhardt knew she had a huge challenge potentially awaiting her. Leonhardt pinned each of her first three opponents at 115 pounds in under two minutes, but that set up a matchup for the championship against Marysville freshman Cami Leng. After enduring her only two previous losses this season during the regular season to Leng, including one by pin, Leonhardt turned the tables by winning the championship bout with a pin in 2:38. “I’m a little emotional right now,” Leonhardt said. “I have two losses this season, and both of them are to her. One time, I lost by points, and the second time by pin, and I’ve never been able to get shots in that deep or pin her like that, so it was just awesome overall. She’s ranked No. 1 in my weight class, so I just feel so accomplished. This was one of my biggest goals this season, and I accomplished it. Now I’ve got to set higher goals.”
