Noah Doubt About It: Week 8 Gainesville high school football picks
Two years ago, Bradford football and Newberry met in the aftermath of a tropical disturbance. It was one of the few games played that Friday – October 11 – and on the western side of Alachua County, the Panthers created new magic. They handed the unbeatable Tornadoes their first regular season loss in almost two seasons and secured the program’s first district title in 20 years behind Jarquez Carter and Mykah Newton – both of whom are shining at Miami. Friday, NHS and BHS battle under similar circumstances, with the Tornadoes once again favorites. With new coach Ross Baker, Bradford is 7-0 and looking to show Class 2A it is a real state title threat. Newberry is 3-3, but with a win over perennial powerhouse and thorn in Bradford’s side Cocoa under their belt, the Panthers are looking to recreate some 2024 energy. We’re about to find out. Let’s pick that game and the entire Week 8 slate! Last week , Noah Doubt About It finished with an 12-2 (0.86) record for a 85-26 (0.77) mark in the 2026 season. Good luck to all! Fort White (5-1, 1-0) at Madison County (3-4, 0-0) – Class 1A-District 3; Thursday 7:30 p.m.

UF, FSU join Early Decision trend
Seniors applying to colleges this year will likely find themselves with one more admissions option than usual: Early Decision (ED). The two colleges in Florida that receive the most applications, the University of Florida and Florida State University, have both added this admission plan to their application for the Fall 2027 application cycle. This plan, an increasingly popular application option for universities around the nation, stipulates that students may only apply to one school with ED, and, if admitted, must attend and rescind all applications to other colleges. (ED is not a legally binding contract, but breaking the agreement can carry consequences like blacklisting.) Applicants must complete applications earlier than they would in Regular Decision (RD), often in November, but receive an earlier decision.
