Rome to ban left turns from W. 1st St. onto Turner McCall
The city of Rome is moving forward with plans to prohibit left turns from West First Street onto Turner McCall Boulevard, a change officials say is intended to address a potentially dangerous traffic movement before it results in a crash or injury. The request was discussed last week by the Rome Public Works Committee and Traffic Commission after a resident raised concerns about visibility for drivers attempting to turn left from West First Street next to Papa John’s. Canton celebrates completion of new pedestrian bridge
CANTON — Canton leaders, city staff and residents gathered in the city's Sunnyside community Tuesday to celebrate the completion of the Canton Creek Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge, adjacent to Hickory Flat Highway, spans across Canton Creek to provide safer accessibility for the community to and from the downtown area, according to the city. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Canton Mayor Bill Grant thanked everyone for their work in bringing the pedestrian bridge to Canton, adding that the bridge is an important investment in the Sunnyside community. "Anyone who knows me knows that I've been talking about the Hickory Flat gateway, and this is the first visible and tangible signs of a new bridge to Canton's future," he said. "The goal with this gateway project we have going on here is to create a worthy entrance to the coolest small town in America. This project and bridge represent so much. It's important to see Sunnyside come to life and to invest in this gateway and community because Sunnyside is the heart of our community." City Engineer Bethany Watson said the bridge has been "a long time coming." "It started about five years ago with the transportation master plan," she said. "Thank
