DUBACH, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On April 27, 2024, Christopher Cage was heading to El Dorado, Ark. when an officer of the Dubach Police Department, Russell Croxton, initiated a traffic stop on his vehicle for speeding on US 167. Officer Croxton asked Cage for his driver’s license and even joked about the license being “crispy clean.”

Officer Croxton then handed the license back to Cage and he was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler moments later.

He came back with my license and he said your license Crispy clean, huh. I’ll never forget it. I said, ‘yeah, my license is Crispy clean.’ He cracked a joke and when he handed me my license, he turned around to go to his vehicle. As soon as he turned around, that 18-wheeler hit the back of his vehicle.

After the 18-wheeler struck Officer Croxton, it slammed into Cage’s vehicle, trapping Cage inside the car. Cage went on to tell KTVE/KARD how he managed to survive being trapped inside the vehicle.

I freed myself from being pinned and I got out on the other side. I didn’t see him. I didn’t know here he was. But I knew he got hit.

Cage told KTVE/KARD about his last moments with Officer Croxton.

He told me, ‘Mr. Cage can you please help me.’ I told him to just hold my hand. Squeeze my hand if you can hear me. He was squeezing my hand.

Cage sends his condolences to Officer Croxton’s family and friends. He also spoke about his future rehabilitation plans for his injuries.
