Dover Area High School Veterans Memorial to hold groundbreaking Monday

The long-awaited Dover Area High School Veterans Memorial will hold a groundbreaking event Monday, May 20, at 10 a.m.

This memorial project was suggested by Brad Jacobs, chair of the Dover Veterans Memorial Committeec in January of 2018, when he wrote to school administration and school board directors.

“As a former Commissioned Officer in the PA Army National Guard, I believe it would be appropriate that the Dover School District establish a memorial to honor the service and sacrifice of all veterans who served in the Armed Forces of the US,” the letter read.

Jacobs stated that the capital fundraising campaign has raised over $185,000, and construction will begin in this summer, with a dedication on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2024.

“Not all projects have done so well coming out of the global pandemic,” Jacobs said. “And I am most pleased with what we have accomplished after the pandemic."

Jacobs said community members, local businesses, veterans, and veteran organizations have shown great support for the project since it was first announced.
