DOVER, Ohio (WJW) – A man has died after an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 77 near state Route 90 in Tuscarawas County .

The shooting happened Friday just after 1:40 a.m., after troopers stopped to assist a disabled 1994 red Chevrolet pickup truck that was partially in the roadway, according to a Friday afternoon news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Kendell Floyd Woodard, showed “concerning behaviors,” according to the release.

During the several-hour traffic stop, law enforcement, the Tuscarawas County Crisis Intervention Team and EMS tried to get Woodard out of the truck for medical attention. That is when troopers saw a weapon behind his back.

The suspect then pointed the weapon at law enforcement, “which resulted in an officer-involved shooting,” according to the release.

Woodard was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
