Tragic! Shooting Claims Life of Prospective College Student Who Was Visiting a Campus

Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of Camay Mitchell De Silva, an 18-year-old prospective student at Delaware State University .

De Silva was tragically killed by gunfire on April 21, reportedly as an innocent bystander.

The Dover Police Department announced on Monday, April 6, that Destry Jones, 20, and Damien Hinson, 28, have been charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting .

According to reports, the suspects were apprehended in Brooklyn , New York , and Dover, Delaware, respectively.

Police revealed during a press conference that the shooting occurred near the Warren-Franklin dormitory on the university campus.

De Silva, who was staying with a friend at the time, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to a local hospital , where she tragically succumbed to her injuries .

Chief Thomas Johnson Jr. of the Dover Police Department stated that De Silva was not involved in the altercation and was likely not the intended target of the gunfire.

“As we have previously released, Miss De Silva was not involved in this altercation and we do not believe she was the intended target of the gunfire which originated from the breezeway area,” she said during the press conference , per NBC10.

The suspects, neither of whom is enrolled as a student at Delaware State University , are facing serious charges related to the incident .

De Silva, described as an intelligent and beautiful individual with a contagious smile , was a computer science major considering enrollment at Delaware State University to pursue a career in cybersecurity .
