BNSF train derails in Bennet
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A BNSF train suffered a minor derailment in Bennet on Monday evening. It happened a little after 6 p.m. on the west side of Highway 43 in the southern portion of the town. While the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the incident, they added that their assistance was not required once on scene.
KMAland Girls Track & Field (4/20): Palmyra 2nd at MUDECAS, AG's Gerdes 2nd in Kansas
(KMAland) -- Palmyra was the top KMAland team at the MUDECAS Meet while Ashland-Greenwood's Lauren Gerdes had an impressive showing at the Kansas Relays. Ashland-Greenwood’s Lauren Gerdes finished second in the high jump after clearing 5-03.00. Runners from Maryville and Glenwood were also in action at this meet. Find the full results here.
Athlete of the Week: Riley Boonstra
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Norris distance runner Riley Boonstra won back-to-back state championships in cross country. He’s hoping to do the same during the track-and-field season. Boonstra is the reigning Class B gold medalist in the 1600M and 3200M races. On Friday, the Titans senior broke the NSAA Class B record in the two-mile run with a time of 9 minutes, 2.25 seconds. The record-breaking performance came at the prestigious Kansas Relays.

Norris School District names next superintendent
FIRTH, Neb. (KOLN) - Norris School District 160 named its next superintendent on Monday. Dr. Derrick Joel will become superintendent starting July 1, replacing Dr. Brian Maschmann who was approved to be the ESU 6 Administrator. Dr. Maschmann served the Norris School District for 14 years as both superintendent and assistant superintendent.
