Doral Mayor Christi Fraga is expected to propose new laws at the council's meeting Wednesday related to when bars and nightclubs can sell alcohol.

Why it matters: The new rules come one month after there was a deadly shooting in CityPlace Doral .

    • Fraga told the Miami Herald she hopes the new rules will ensure the safety and security of the community.
    • She said current laws are "very ambiguous," per the outlet.

State of play: The proposal would set last call at 1:30am, with establishments closing at 2am.

    • On New Year's Day, closing time would be at 3am.
    • Establishments would also be required to develop a safety and security plan to be shared with the police department, use portable metal detectors, and hire more security guards and off-duty officers.

Catch up quick: On April 6, two people were killed and seven others injured at Martini Bar at CityPlace Doral around 3:30am after a fight broke out.

    • A lawsuit was filed last month against the club and CityPlace Doral alleging negligence, per the Herald.
