Clouds are back in the forecast through this weekend, along with occasional rain chances, staying cooler
Cloud cover has rolled back into the viewing area by and large, though dry air is still doing a good job at keeping us dry…for now. Showers are knocking on the door to our west, and will likely begin to roll in over the next hour or two for our communities closer to I-35. Closer to Rochester, Preston and Charles City, it’ll take a bit longer for the showers to make it here, but we’ll all still likely need the umbrella sooner rather than later.

Eastern Iowa residents confront flooding after heavy rain
CEDAR RAPIDS — Paul Davis Restoration of the Iowa Corridor typically gets 48 leads on new water, mold or fire cleanup jobs a month, local owner Emily Cornish said. But a recent bout of heavy rain during an ongoing wet period prompted a serious rise in demand. Since 5 a.m. Sunday, Cornish had received 50 calls. “Outside of the derecho, this is the largest spike event that we have experienced since opening our doors in 2020,” Cornish said. When 4.5 inches of rain fell in Cedar Rapids in a 24-hour period over the weekend, the soil was too saturated from an already wet week to absorb much more. Some local residents face flooded basements as a result. The Cedar River rose to a peak of 10.25 feet , just above the “action” level in the city’s flood prevention system. Forecasts show water levels will steadily decrease throughout the week. The worst appears to be over — meteorologist TJ Gunkel with the National Weather Service’s Quad Cities office said little rain is expected for the rest of the week. But it’s unclear how long it will take for the soil to regain its capacity. In the meantime, home restoration companies are

A bit of a rainy start to the week, with even chillier temperatures settling in
It’s going to feel a lot more like October out there than September, with well below average temperatures expected through the first half of the workweek. It’s also going to be another gloomier week out there, and while we aren’t expecting rain to the scope of what some of us saw last week, there will be the chance for showers at times.
