DETROIT (WWJ) -- A police chase that started in Southfield during the Monday evening rush hour ended on Detroit's west side with six people injured.

Police said the pursuit started in the area of 12 Mile Rd. and Northwestern Highway, heading south on Northwestern, and ended when the suspect ran a red light at Outer Drive and James Couzens, crashing into an Uber.

Detroit Police Chief James White said the Uber was carrying a female passenger, who was ejected from the vehicle.

"We've got a total of six people hospitalized," the chief told reporters. "Two of the people that are hospitalized are in fact the perpetrator and a passenger that were being chased by Southfield (police)."

White said the suspect was wanted as a parole absconder on a charge of second degree murder, and for possession of cocaine, which is what led to the pursuit.

As of Tuesday morning, four people remained hospitalized in serious condition, and one in critical condition, police said. The condition of the sixth person is unknown.

The Detroit Police Department is leading the investigation regarding the crash.

    No names have been released.
