A coin flip may have decided one NFL Draft pick's fate

The Detroit Lions made a splash in the 2024 NFL Draft. In the first round, the Lions selected Alabama’s Terrion Arnold, a very talented defensive back.

But while the Lions made a great decision in making the selection, another team might have taken him if not for their pivotal decision.

According to Arnold himself, that team basically decided on him and another top-flight prospect: Brock Bowers.

Arnold joined the Next Round Podcast this week and discussed what he’s experienced thus far. He also shared a fascinating story about how the Raiders wound up picking Bowers instead of him. Arnold said that the Raiders were a possibility for him, and then after the Draft ended, they gave him a call. One Raiders coach informed Arnold that it was basically a coin flip.

“We actually had a coin toss between you and Brock Bowers, and it landed on him. I was like, ‘Oh wow,'” Arnold revealed.

While we don’t know if the Raiders actually flipped a coin to decide on Bowers instead of Arnold, this isn’t the most far-fetched story in the world. Millions, if not billion-dollar organizations like those in the NFL, could probably have better decision-making processes than coin flips. But… then again, after exhausting those processes, a coin flip is probably the easiest way to decipher a decision like this.

We’ll see who that coin flip winds up benefitting more.
