GREEN OAK TWP. (WWJ) -- A Detroit man could face criminal charges following a sting operation involving a person posing as an underage girl.

Just before 11 a.m. on Thursday, Green Oak Township Police said its officers arrested the man in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store on Lee Road in Green Oak Township.

Police said the suspect had been having conversations with a person who'd been posing as a 14-year-old girl since March of this year. After several text messages back and forth about meeting and "other immoral acts," police said they agreed to meet at the 7-Eleven, in Livingston County — where officers were waiting.

The suspect, who was legally armed with a 9mm handgun, was found sitting in the vehicle he described in the text messages, police said. He was arrested without incident and booked in the Livingston County Jail pending a case review by the Livingston County Prosecutor.

Police said Friday that this case is still under investigation, and it will take officers time to review all the evidence.

Police noted that the person who posed as the girl and called police is not affiliated with the Green Oak Police Department, works independently, and has been involved in similar cases throughout Michigan.

"Greek Oak Police would like to stress to the community that the actions of the reporting party are extremely dangerous, and the public’s safety is always our top priority," police added, in a statement.

The suspect's name was not released.
