YPSILANTI (WWJ) -- Remarkably, a man is expected to be OK after he was hit by a train in Ypsilanti on Monday.

A spokesperson for Huron Valley Ambulance, which dispatches for fire departments in Washtenaw County, said a call came in at 1:13 p.m. about a person that an Amtrak train had hit a person, but the information from the scene shows the person was only "grazed" by the train.

Speaking with WWJ's Darrylin Horne, Ypsilanti Police Officer Louis Swafford this happened in the area of E. Michigan Ave. and Miles Street.

"He was walking on the tracks with his AirPods in his ears," Swafford said. "I guess he kind of heard the train's horns going off, so he went from the middle to the left. And I guess he didn't move over far enough... which in turn the train kind of nicked him on the shoulder."

The man was taken to Trinity Health for treatment.

However, Officer Swafford said the man is "fine," was alert on the scene, with no indication of any serious injuries.
