The pursuit began just after 2:30 a.m. at SE 14th Street and Watrous Avenue when police pulled into a parking lot to check on a truck that was parked near a closed business, Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department said. The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Alexander Courtney, took off and refused to stop for police.

The chase lasted about 15 minutes and came to an end when stop sticks disabled Courtney’s truck and he stopped near 5th Avenue and Crocker Street. Sgt. Parizek said Courtney ran from the vehicle but a K-9 was able to track him down and he was placed in custody.

Courtney is charged with eluding, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, and traffic violations.
