DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are investigating after one person suffered a gunshot wound early Tuesday morning on Des Moines’ southeast side.

Officers were called to the 5500 block of SE 14th St. around 12:15 a.m. on a report of gunshots, said Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department. The caller described a vehicle seen leaving the scene and officers located it near SE 14th and Army Post Road.

Sgt. Parizek said there were three occupants in the vehicle and one was an adult male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The occupants of the vehicle told police they don’t know why someone was shooting at them, or who the suspect might be.

Investigators discovered multiple shell casings and damaged vehicles in a parking lot in the 5500 block of SE 14th St.

The investigation into the incident continues.
