    Longtime Des Moines Register sports reporter and columnist Randy Peterson has retired after 52 years with the publication.

    From covering area high school sports to the Iowa Hawkeyes and, most recently, the Iowa State Cyclones, he's compiled thousands of bylines and gained plenty of knowledge.

    Here are seven of Peterson's favorite recent columns:
