Inspectors measure food at unsafe temperatures in Stanislaus County restaurants

Tips@modbee.com . Food was found at unsafe temperature in Modesto, Turlock and Patterson restaurants during mid-October inspections. Stanislaus County health inspectors found insects and cross-contamination risks in multiple food facilities in mid-October. The majority of the 2,400 permitted food service establishments in the county receive unannounced routine food safety inspections each year, according to the Department of Environmental Resources . Election results 2026: How the Valley is voting for Congress and California leaders

Central Valley voters are helping decide who represents them in Congress and the California Legislature, who will lead the state and which statewide ballot propositions will become law. These are the latest election results for races affecting Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Madera and Merced counties, including congressional and legislative contests, statewide offices and California’s 14 ballot propositions. Results will be updated as ballots are counted following Tuesday’s election. Unofficial results in the Nov. 3, 2026, California general election from the California Secretary of State’s Office and county election offices. These preliminary results, known as a semifinal official canvass, are updated as counties count ballots. Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day may be counted if received by Nov. 10. Counties must certify election results by Dec. 3. The secretary of state must certify the final statement of vote by Dec. 11.

Boyenga, Lopez in tight battle to become Merced County superintendent of schools

Ana Boyenga and Richard Lopez are locked in a close race to become the next Merced County superintendent of schools. Boyenga has a slight lead over Lopez, 50.96% to 49.04%, in early unofficial results released at 2:06 a.m. on Wednesday. Boyenga has 19,012 votes compared to Lopez’s 18,297. The next results update will be posted no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, according to the Merced County website. “Running for Merced County Superintendent of Schools has been an incredible journey, and I can honestly say that I am proud of the campaign we have run,” Boyenga said in an email. “We approached this race with purpose, passion, and a genuine commitment to the students, families, educators, and communities of Merced County. “While every vote has yet to be counted, I am humbled and grateful for the tremendous support this campaign has received.” Boyenga is the assistant superintendent of the Atwater Elementary School District. Modesto school districts' bond measures need 55% to pass. Here's what early update shows

Editor’s note: Election result numbers in the story will continue to be updated. The numbers in the graphic below are the most up-to-date. Of two Modesto school bond measures that need a 55% supermajority to pass, one appears to have won handily in updated unofficial election results posted early Wednesday morning. The other still needs less than a percentage point of additional support. Modesto City Schools’ Measure K is for only its high school district. In the first updated results, the measure has 58.5% support, or 23,848 votes. Opposition is 41.5%, or 16,884 votes. It would authorize the sale of up to $250 million in bonds by the district and “allow the district to issue additional bonds while extending the current bond tax rate paid by local property owners at a reduced rate of approximately $24 per $100,000 of assessed (not market) value,” according to the district website. The last time MCS passed a bond measure for its high school district was in 2022 with Measure L. ‘We want to see change': Merced voters make their voices heard

The line to enter the Vikram and Priya Lakireddy Auditorium on the UC Merced Campus stretched nearly around the building Tuesday as a crowd of students waited to vote, many for the first time. Across the county, voters cast more than 42,000 ballots. More than 6,000 people voted in person on Election Day and, according to Registrar of Voters Melvin Levey, ballot boxes had to be cleared up to three times throughout the day. The last voters concluded just before midnight. Levey also noted the county received about 2,000 provisional or conditional ballots from people who registered to vote at the same time they cast their ballots. “We have to go through and check and make sure that the voter is eligible to vote in this election,” Levey said, which means confirming they have not voted in another county, are at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Merced County. Those votes have yet to be tabulated, as they require extra processing time. Oakdale Irrigation District November 3, 2026

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors held its Tuesday, November 3, 2026 meeting at its headquarters in Oakdale and on Zoom. Oakdale ID provides water and power to more than 80,000 acres. It gets its surface water from the Stanislaus River and if I understand correctly has pre-1914 water rights. Soria holds large lead in race for CA Senate district covering large part of Fresno

State Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria is maintained a large lead on election night in the race for the California Senate’s District 14 seat currently held by Anna Caballero. Returns showed more than 110,000 votes had been counted as of 11:29 p.m. in the race to represent the district, which covers the southern half of the city of Fresno, the west side of Fresno County and also large parts of Madera and Merced counties. Soria, a Democrat, held about 64.1% of the expected vote while Republican Darin Dupont, an attorney and Merced City Council member, held 35.9%. Soria’s lead had widened slightly since the night’s first returns. Here’s a look at how the races are going for seats on the boards that govern Modesto Junior College and several school districts. Results are from the Stanislaus County elections office and are partial and unofficial at this point. Yosemite Community College District The Yosemite Community College District Board of Trustees governs Modesto Junior College and Columbia College in Sonora.
