Boys golf: Norskies second at first conference mini meet in Beaver Dam
Taking part in the first Badger Conference mini meet of the season, the DeForest boys’ golf team finished second overall at Old Hickory in Beaver Dam. The Norskies shot a 307, one stroke behind Milton. Kaden Zinkle and Lincoln Hottmann led the way, as both shot 73s. Parker Bilderback carded a 77, while Dylan Bilderback had an 84 and Cam Goninen shot an 89.
Windsor applies for state grant to improve N. Meixner Road
The Windsor Village Board voted unanimously in favor of applying for the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program (ARIP) in hopes of rehabilitating a section of N. Meixner Road on Thursday, April 4. The application outlines a project corridor on the road between from CTH V to the Columbia County border, roughly 1.2 miles. It cites the deteriorated asphalt, disrepair and annual posting of weight limits in the corridor as reasoning for serious funding consideration. ...

Despite collecting just two hits, the DeForest baseball team notched its first win of the year, edging Beaver Dam 3-2 on Tuesday, April 9. Opening the season with a 14-3 blowout win over Watertown on Monday, April 1, the DeForest girls’ lacrosse team has lost two straight matches. Marianna Champagne erupted for five goals and two assists against the Goslings, while teammate Alaina Kerl had a hat trick and an assist for a four-point night. Softball: Norskies' rally falls short at MG
The DeForest softball team started off the 2024 campaign with a bang, crushing Sauk Prairie in the Norskies’ home opener 16-0. They almost started off 2-0, but DeForest was clipped by Monona Grove on the road on Tuesday, as the Norskies’ rally fell short in a 7-6 loss. They found themselves down six runs in the second inning. Raegan Smith and Payton Steffen had four hits apiece for DeForest, now 1-1. Steffen also drove in a run and pitched six innings, striking out two and walking three. Of the seven runs she allowed on nine hits, only four were earned. Sofia Rauls also had an RBI for the Norskies, while walking twice. DeForest batters worked Silver Eagles’ pitching for five walks, as Desirae Kallstrom raced for two steals. DeForest hosts Beaver Dam on Thursday.
Softball: Speed, defense strengths for DeForest

Girls soccer: Norskies split with Sun Prairie West, East
To start the season, the DeForest girls’ soccer team split with the two Sun Prairie schools, blanking West 4-0 and falling 2-1 to East. On Friday, Olivia Turnquist and Marissa Thiel had two goals apiece against West, as Rylan Oberg, Karina Kuzdas and McKenzie Brandl notched assists. “Overall, a good weekend with some tough luck versus East after controlling possession for the bulk of the game and outshooting them 11-3,” said DeForest head coach Tim Esser. “Ball movement and defense was solid both games but just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net on Saturday.” The Norskies had a tough time breaking through against East, as Oberg scored DeForest’s lone goal in the loss. At 1-1, the Norskies were slated to host Reedsburg on Monday.

The Olson-Grinde-O’Donnell Post 348 of the American Legion and its Auxiliary will conduct their monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on April 16 at the Cornerstone Community Center (formerly known as the Deforest Area Community and Senior Center) located at 505 N.
