Queen City Running Co., Dead River Coffee to host Dead Carp 20k Run
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - U.P. runners will have a chance to run along Marquette’s lakeshore this weekend. Queen City Running Co. is teaming up with Dead River Coffee to host the third annual Dead Carp 20k Run on Saturday. There will also be a 5k Run/Walk option on Saturday and a Little Carp 1 Mile Walk on Friday. The course for the races will pass over both the Dead and Carp Rivers, which organizers say gives runners the full experience of Marquette’s lakeshore.
NMU brings WWI Polar Bear Expedition story to life with ‘Ghost Soldiers’ at Panowski Black Box Theatre
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Step into the harrowing tale of the Polar Bear Expedition as Ghost Soldiers makes its world debut at the Panowski Black Box Theatre. Inspired by the grandfather of NMU professors Paul and Dan Truckey, Ghost Soldiers transports theatergoers back in time to a frozen Soviet warzone, where six young soldiers experience the true nature of war in their battle against the Bolshevik army. Through its portrayal of wartime brotherhood and tragedy, Ghost Soldiers also delves into the life of its main protagonist, Iron Mike (played by Copeland Diver), and his personal struggle to move on after the war.
Carden International Circus entertains Marquette
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Crews were hard at work on Friday setting up the Carden International Circus in Marquette. It’s a three-ring circus with acts from all over the world, including acrobats, globe motorcyclists and BMX riders. Kids can also ride ponies and Janice the elephant, get their faces painted or meet any of the other animals in the show.

Brookridge Heights Assisted Living hosts Mother’s Day Tea
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Mothers, daughters and grandmothers celebrated Mother’s Day with a tea party Thursday. Brookridge Heights Assisted Living held its annual Mother’s Day Tea. Residents played games and chatted over chocolate-covered strawberries. Organizers said the tea party is made with love -- and residents look forward to it every year.
