Voters in St. Cloud elect Somali-American man to MN House
(St. Cloud, MN) -- Abdi Daisane is set to become the first Somali American to represent central Minnesota in the state Legislature. St. Cloud LIVE reports the DFL candidate won about 52 percent of the vote Tuesday, defeating Republican St. Cloud City Council President Mike Conway in House District 14A. Daisane, who owns a childcare center, lost his first bid for the seat by about 13 percentage points in 2024. He credits his win to staying involved in the community and talking with residents between elections. Daisane takes office in January.
