Man arrested for alleged stabbing in Culver City parking lot

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman in a Culver City parking lot, police said Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 6100 block of Slauson Avenue at around 2:45 p.m. Sunday after multiple callers reported what appeared to be an altercation between two people in a parking lot, according to the Culver City Police Department.

They found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times. She was taken to a hospital and has since been released, police said.

Detectives discovered that Jorge Arnoldo Vasquez approached the woman in a parking garage outside a retail business and allegedly stabbed her multiple times before she was able to remove the knife from his hands.

Vasquez allegedly fled the area on foot, but was located a short time later hiding in bushes at Cougar Park near where the attack took place, authorities said.

"Initially, the suspect provided a false identity to police, indicating he was thirty-eight years old," police said in a statement.

Vasquez was booked at the Culver City Jail and has subsequently been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and providing false identification to a peace officer.

He's being held on $2 million bail.
