Hoyt Lakes resident charged in drug bust
On November 29, 2023 members of the Lake Superior Violent Offender’s Task Force executed a search warrant on a vehicle after conducting a traffic at the Anchor Lake Rest Stop in unorganized township 56-17. The search warrant on the vehicle yielded $19,100 currency, methamphetamine, a handgun and marijuana. The driver of the vehicle was lodged at the St. Louis Co jail in Virginia on various charges. A subsequent search warrant was later executed at the individual’s residence in Hoyt Lakes. During the execution of the search warrant, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine and schedule 4 pills were located. An additional $95,000 currency and firearms were also seized.

Accident injures Gilbert man
GILBERT—A 69-year-old Gilbert man suffered non-life-threatening injuries Monday morning in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 135 and Indiana Avenue in Gilbert. William Loren Hoffman’s vehicle was westbound on Highway 135 when it hit a patch of black ice, lost control, rolled and struck a sign, a Minnesota State Patrol report states. The accident was reported at 8:41 a.m. Hoffman, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the Essentia-Virginia Hospital. Virginia Ambulance, Virginia Fire and Gilbert Police responded to the scene.
